Why lying is easier than most people think

—- A quick reference manual for becoming the best liar —-

In this world, we value the truth. Being honest is a venture, and lying is perceived as an unacceptable behavior. But then again, we lie more often than we dare to recognize. It is easier than most people think, and if you take into account the recent political and business news, you will see that you can get a long way without being called out as a bender of truth.

The following information might be very helpful if you want to become a better liar. (Did I just say “better liar”? Of course, I mean “become better at recognizing liars”).

First of all, it is good to realize that lying is easier than most people think. Many people use lies to ease their day-to-day routine and evade uneasy discussions or a detailed accountability of their day to day routine to their co-workers, boss, and, of course, their partner. Most of the time, people who lie do not get caught, and most lies go undetected.

As an example, Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the Russia interference in the 2016 election was a “hoax” and that his campaign had no Russian contacts, multiple federal investigations confirmed that Russia systematically interfered in the 2016 election to benefit him and that his campaign had numerous ties to Russian officials.

Everybody Lies

Research carried out by Bella DePaulo, it found that people lie in 20% of their daily interactions. Also, a TED talk by Pamela Meyer, claims that people lie to us from 10 to 200 times per day. Most of these lies are little white lies or just leaving parts of the truth out. Just ask yourself what you have accomplished today by lying? Or do you want to become better at this?To become a better liar, you first have to know what triggers a lie to be detected. Most of the lies get detected when you show suspicious behavior, in a nonverbal response, or when trying to deviate from an activity. Since it is used to cover up deviating activities or to emphasize an untrue story

3 Tips on How to Be a Good Liar.

1. Keep it short

People tend to measure the truth of a story looking by at a number of details given when responding to questions. People tend to get suspicious when the answer contains more information than was required to answer the question. Make sure you limit your story so it is not obvious you made it up.

2. Keep it plausible

People who are lied to will ask themselves, “How likely is this answer really what happened ?” If the lie is too farfetched people will doubt the story. Make sure your lie is close to the truth. So stick to common events and avoid huge exceptions when lying. This will only draw suspicion.

3. Keep your cool

Stay cool when telling a lie. Especially when people are beginning to ask questions. Being nervous is a suspicious indicator and will not only make you lose confidence but also spur distrust in your audience.

However, the moment they start asking for clarification and in-depth questions, you know you are out of trouble. These questions are an indication that they believe you are telling the truth. But, when you get nervous, make sure you provide a tenable explanation for being nervous. One that has nothing to do with the first lie.

How To Lie

Control the response

When you discuss someone or a situation with a friend or coworker, you only tell your side of the story. You can rephrase the response and leave out the less suitable words. You should omit small but important details of the story and emphasize your objective role in this situation. This way you control the response and authenticity, which will perhaps change the perception of the situation and create an alternative truth.

Lying by omission

Do not leave less desirable parts out of your explanation. This is a great way to justify your cause or make you look good. And it is easy, you conveniently forget to tell the sensitive part. By leaving these parts out, you leave it to the imagination of the people you told the story to fill in the gaps which are usually positive.

For example, you tell your personal trainer you went out for an exercise every day, but leave out the part where you stop for a hotdog. Make sure you do not leave out too many parts, since that will become suspicious.

Exaggeration

If you are trying to find approval from others, you can use exaggeration to overstate your intentions OR you can exaggerate the amount of setback you experience when executing a task as an argument for your stagnant progress. You might use this to hide your feelings of guilt for not being up-to-par with your promises. Endeavor you exaggerate your next promises, but make sure you are not present when they assess your next performance.

How to get to the master level

These steps and forms of lies are easy, but will require some determination to master them well. And the true master does not show any form of suspicious or deviating behavior when lying.

To be a good liar you have to develop these traits. Just have a look at some of the famous liars and map their skills on this list.

  • Be convinced about your own lies. And think of yourself as best in class with the right answers. Nothing is as disturbing as self-doubt or a critical inner voice.
  • Ignore or disarm people who doubt your lies. Make sure they are as far away from where you are. These are the people who can ruin your lying spree.
  • Deny everything, or even better, just ignore the allegations of lies and just tell a new lie to deflect attention.
  • Do not worry about the future. This is the place where lies die. Try to ignore future effects and continue living in your world. You can invent new lies in the future when the time comes.
  • Make sure you surround yourself with liars. They will echo your lies and do not have a problem with telling a new lie to protect you.
  • When you are accused of being a liar, perform a frontal attack on the person who is accusing you. This distracts attention from your situation to the shady practices of the shameless attacker.

Being a good liar requires a good deal of creativity and imagination, a thick skin, and a very thick skull. You have to be able to continue on your road leading to the inevitable cliff and ignore all warning signs. It is actually rather a difficult competence to keep it up, but you can admire someone as a consistent liar with perseverance.
